A house and garden on the Left Bank

Osokorky

Osokorky is a historic neighbourhood on the Left Bank of the Dnipro by the Southern Bridge, where a house comes with its own garden and a metro station nearby. The former village, first recorded in 1070, has kept its streets of private homes, and to the south lie the Osokorky Lakes — more than seventy bodies of water within Kyiv.

Character

Osokorky is one of the few corners of Kyiv where a lane of private houses turns into a city avenue within minutes. The name comes from the black poplars (osokir) that once grew in groves by the lakes. The village joined the city zone in 1935, and from the 1990s a high-rise district grew up next to it on reclaimed land.

Lakes and meadows

South of Mykoly Bazhana Avenue lie the Osokorky Lakes: Tiahle, Nebrezh, Martyshiv, Viazky and dozens of smaller ones. In 2019 Kyiv City Council made the Osokorky Meadows a protected landscape reserve, alongside a separate reserve for Lake Tiahle. Meadows and lakeshores give you open space without leaving the city.

Getting around

Osokorky station on the green Syretsko-Pecherska line opened in 1992 together with the metro section across the Southern Bridge. Pecherska is a direct ride with no changes. The main road is Mykoly Bazhana Avenue, running from the Southern Bridge to Kharkivska Square.

The homes

The old village means Osokorska, Zarichna, Maslivka and Pidlypka streets with their private plots: this is where people buy and build detached houses on a few hundred square metres of land. Next door is the high-rise district on reclaimed land. For a house hunter, that mix is the appeal: a plot and quiet, yet inside the city and close to the metro.

Everyday life

Lyceum No. 323 on Oleksandra Myshuhy Street and the full infrastructure of the neighbouring high-rise district — shops, sport, healthcare — are a short drive away. Unlike in the suburbs, groceries or a doctor's visit do not mean a trip to another town.

Who it suits

Those who want their own house and garden but not a daily commute from out of town, and those for whom a nearby metro station matters. The honest drawback: Osokorky is no sleepy village — high-rises and a busy avenue are close by.
