A house five kilometres from Kyiv
Sviatopetrivske
Sviatopetrivske is a village in Bilohorodka hromada, Bucha district, about five kilometres from Kyiv, where a house means a country plot with city infrastructure close at hand. Vyshneve lies to the east, Bilohorodka to the north-west and Boiarka to the south.
Character
The village is young: it was founded in 1928–1929 by farmers from Bilohorodka as the hamlet of Kulykivka, and was later called Petrivske. Today it has streets of private houses, the Ukrainian Tennis Centre opened in 2012, and the Dobrovolets sports complex.
Homes and everyday life
People buy and build detached houses on their own plots here; the one I represent comes with a pool, a shelter and a generator. For children there is Sviatopetrivske Academic Lyceum on Tsentralna Street, and the shops and services of neighbouring Vyshneve are right next door.
Who it suits
Families who want a house, a garden and a school nearby, with Kyiv a short drive away — and tennis players, since the Ukrainian Tennis Centre is in the village itself. The drawback: it is a low-rise suburb, so a car is essential.
