A country house a stone's throw from Kyiv

Hatne

Hatne is a village on the Odesa highway that begins just a hundred metres past the Kyiv city sign, so a house in Hatne is country living with the city literally across the road. Teremky metro is about four kilometres away, and the village has its own lyceum, an early twentieth-century church and over five centuries of history.

Character

Hatne has been on record since 1500, when Prince Bohdan Hlynsky granted the village to Kyiv's St Nicholas Desert Monastery. In 1949 a mammoth skeleton was found here — it is now in Kyiv's Palaeontological Museum, with a memorial plaque at the site. The Church of the Intercession was consecrated in 1906.

Location

Hatne is the centre of Hatne rural hromada in Fastiv district, which also includes Vita-Poshtova and Yurivka. The village borders Kyiv: on the Odesa highway it begins about a hundred metres after the city-limit sign. Teremky and Chabany are its neighbours.

Getting around

The M-05 Kyiv–Odesa highway runs through the village. The nearest metro station is Teremky, about four kilometres away, and the nearest railway station is Vyshneve. For trips to the centre you can drive to the metro and continue without traffic.

The homes

Private estates, modern houses on modest plots and gated communities. Being this close to the city lets you live in a house with terraces and a garden without giving up Kyiv's schools, offices and restaurants. The house I represent in Hatne is modern minimalism with a generator and full autonomy.

Schools

The village has Hatne Lyceum and the private Kvinta Community School lyceum, so families can choose between a state and a private school without a daily drive into the city.

Who it suits

Those who want a house near Kyiv but not more than a few kilometres from the city, and families with school-age children. The drawback: the Odesa highway is busy at rush hour, so plan your route.
